Did You Know? Emergency room visits for concussions in kids ages 8-13 doubled from 1997 to 2007 and concussions skyrocketed 200% among kids aged 14 to 19 over the same span, according to a recent study by The American Academy of Pediatrics. This is quite the daunting reality of youth injuries!
Here at Chartis, we have noticed the increase of interest and legislation and we have decided to get in the game. Given that we sell accident insurance to amateur sport groups, we better understand all the risks young athletes face everyday, right?
We have launched aHead of the Game, an awareness campaign to promote education of the signs, symptoms, and treatment of concussions. The more parents, coaches, and children know about concussions, the safer they will be. Concussion symptoms can take an hour to a few days to occur. We should all be aware of what those symptoms are so we receive emergency treatment as soon as possible.
Would you know how to spot a concussion if you saw one? Click here to learn how.
What is Baseline Testing?
How can you get involved? We have educational materials for coaches, parents and kids to download on our website.
